So, it’s that ole’ September back-to-school feeling.

But do you want it to feel different this year?

I bet if you had a quid for all the times you said or heard “We’ll revisit that in September”, you’d be sitting pretty on a pile of cash now. Right?

And now September’s here, and you’re looking at the diary, it doesn’t feel like the good idea you thought it was, does it?!

We’ve talked before about time management and if you want to refresh those tips to tackle the diary overwhelm here you go.

But you also have a choice about how you face into that back-to-school chaos. I’ve been reflecting the archetypes of students I saw starting a new school term back in the day.

There were those who were neatly pressed in their uniform, not a hair out of place. And then there were those who were a bit more rumpled. Maybe a bit unruly. You know, like that kid who didn’t have a set bedtime who seemed just a little bit feral…

So, which archetype are you?

• #1 Planned. Prepared. Disciplined. The uniform and the books were all bought ages ago and you’ve even read the first bit of the syllabus.

• #2 Rebellious. Wilful. Different. You don’t care what you’d been told you need for the new term. You’ll figure out what you need. You just plough your own row.

• #3 Optimistic. Spontaneous. Easy-going. You’ll get there.. but it’s all a bit last minute. You don’t fret. But you told yourself you had all summer to get ready for the new term and now suddenly you have two days!

• #4 Future-focussed. Explorative. Edgy. The kid who’s all over the coolest trends. You have the latest calculator and you know the most recent discovery in your favourite subject.

• #5 Dreamer. Visionary, Pioneer. The kid with their head in the clouds thinking about life’s big questions. (No, I’m not talking about chips or beans with your pie in the school cafeteria at lunchtime – the answer is both, obviously!). I’m talking about the why of it all. This kid was on track to change the world with purpose.

I’m guessing you know which one you are… Great.

Now which one do you want to be?

Which one might serve you better? They all have pros and cons. So, without fundamentally changing who you are – which traits could you adopt that would turn your performance this September up to eleven? And what will you choose to do to adopt them?

A few tweaks in your attitude or focus and you’ll be bossing that new ‘term’ like the star pupil you are.
